2016-2017 Recipients

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016-2017 Calderone Junior Faculty Awards, which support junior faculty development. The award honors Frank A. Calderone’s career and commitment to public health and is supported by an endowment from the Calderone family. Awardees are chosen based on the scientific merit of their research and its significance for public health, as well as the impact of this award on their future careers. 

Almamy Kante, Associate Research Scientist in Population and Family Health, will integrate data related to causes of death in the civil registration system in Saint-Louis, Senegal.

Marianthi-Anna Kiomourtzoglou, Assistant Professor in Environmental Health Sciences, will develop a new method to assess multi-pollutant exposures in environmental epidemiologic studies.

Gen Li, Assistant Professor in Biostatistics, will identify melanoma prognostic biomarkers, which are becoming increasingly important in treating the most serious form of skin cancer, by integrating imaging data and genetic data.

Christine Mauro, Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the Columbia University Medical Center, will study machine learning approaches for identifying moderators and mediators of mental health treatment in randomized clinical trials.

Nischay Mishra, Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Infection and Immunity, will study differential serodiagnosis of flavivirus infections, which include Zika, dengue, yellow fever, and West Nile virus.

Rafal Tokarz, Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Infection and Immunity, will develop a multiplex serological assay for tick-borne pathogens.
