Metallomics Training
Laboratory Methods, Data Interpretation, and Health Applications
The first hybrid Metallomics Training is on July 20-21, 2026. Sign up below to hear about registration opening!
The Metallomics Training is a two-day intensive workshop that provides an integrated introduction to metallomics—from laboratory fundamentals to advanced statistical analysis and interpretation and policy translation. Participants will learn how metals are measured, how to understand and manipulate instrument outputs, how to apply modern statistical tools to metal data (including mixtures approaches), and how to translate findings back to study participants, communities, and decision-makers.

Summer 2026 dates: Hybrid training July 20-21, 2026; 10am - ~5:00pm EDT
Training Overview
Metals and metalloids are critical environmental exposures with profound implications for human health. Advances in metallomics now allow researchers to generate high-precision trace element measurements across tissues, biospecimens, environmental media, and complex mixtures. Yet many investigators lack hands-on exposure to the analytical methods and principles that underlie metal quantification, as well as the data-analysis skills needed to interpret these measurements in epidemiologic and translational studies, and apply them in risk assessment and health guidelines.
This two-day intensive SHARP workshop provides an integrated introduction to metallomics—from laboratory fundamentals to advanced statistical analysis and interpretation and policy translation. A combination of lectures, laboratory demonstrations, guided exercises, and discussion will prepare attendees to use metal data rigorously and creatively in their own research.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the training, participants will be familiar with the following topics:
- How metals are measured
- Understand and manipulate instrument outputs
- Apply modern statistical tools to metal data (including mixtures approaches)
- Tranlate findings back to study participants, communities, and decision-makers
Location Information
Summer 2026: The Metallomics Training will be a hybrid setup with an in-person training at the Columbia University Irving Medical Campus in NYC and simultaneously livestreamed for remote attendees taking place on July 20-21, 2026 from 9:00am - ~5:30pm EDT. Please note this training is not a self-paced, pre-recorded online training. All training start and end times are in EDT.
