Global Gag Rule Research Working Group
Together with the Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE), GHJG co-founded and led a consortium of researchers, civil society advocates, and service delivery institutions dedicated to documenting the impacts of the Global Gag Rule (GGR), implemented by the Trump Administration. Between 2018 and 2021, monthly meetings offered platform for researchers to coordinate and collaborate to avoid duplication and to share insights across our respective studies. We also supported opportunities to connect the research consortium with existing GGR legal, policy, and advocacy working groups. It was critical to foster information sharing among the partners included in those groups in order to determine what evidence needs to be generated to maximally support global and national advocacy efforts, policy change, and legal strategies. Framework for assessing the health systems impact of the expanded GGR
In a 2019 analytical article published in BMJ Global Health, we presented a hypothesis regarding the potential impact of the GGR on health systems as a tool that may be useful to those researching the GGR and similar overseas development assistance policy changes.

2020 GGR Symposium: From Election to Action
On December 2-4, 2020, GHJG joined amfAR, CARE, CHANGE, Guttmacher Institute, International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC), and PAI in co-hosting a three-day, five-continent, virtual symposium to discuss the impact of the GGR to date; legal strategies related to the rescission of the GGR; and future policy advocacy openings given the outcome of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
