About
Most, if not all, chronic diseases are preventable. Yet the United States' current approach to prevention is failing as health care expenditures are increasing, disease risk still remains unacceptably high, racial and ethnic minority communities are disproportionately affected, and children are becoming increasingly vulnerable.
Columbia University is harnessing the power of Precision Prevention to deliver the right invervention, to the right person, at the right time.
Based on an individual’s needs and underlying susceptibility to disease, we can use advanced biological, molecular, and computational methods to research and develop a prevention plan tailored precisely to that individual, rather than our current one-size-fits-all approach.
Precision Medicine at Columbia University and globally is gaining traction to provide individualized diagnosis and treatment, but we need Precision Prevention to target specific communities and vulnerable populations with preventive health strategies, and guide individuals. Precision Prevention will use research from biological and molecular basic sciences to integrate with big data and computational methods to develop advanced, low-cost technology that will transform public health and complementary medical interventions and return on investment.
