The Public Health Law Teaching Project

Professor Magda Schaler-Haynes and Dr. Heather Krasna received CDC funding to expand public health law education across accredited schools and programs of public health. The award is part of the CDC initiative, Strengthening Public Health Systems and Services through National Partnerships to Improve and Protect the Nation’s Health.

Public health law shapes how health departments protect communities, respond to emerging threats, and carry out their core responsibilities. Yet accredited MPH programs are not required to teach public health law or demonstrate law-related competencies. This project aims to close that gap by making established public health law curricula and resources more accessible, strengthening support for local health departments, and encouraging MPH programs to integrate foundational public health law courses and training into their educational offerings.
