Extreme Weather
SocialsVoice-extreme weather was a follow-up study with prior SocialsVoice youth participants and parents that examined how extreme weather and climate-related content on social media may impact mental health. Participants completed surveys, were invited to share social media clips, and took part in separate youth and parent virtual group discussions.
The study took place over one week in February 2026 and included 18 youth and 15 parents from the original SocialsVoice study. Participants joined one-time group sessions held separately for youth and parents, with three youth groups and two parent groups in total. During these discussions, participants reflected on the extreme weather and climate-related social media clips they shared using adapted “SHOWED” questions.
Results and dissemination materials will be coming in 2026, so please check back for updates.
