Dr. Scott Hammer's major interests are the development of improved therapies for persons with HIV infection and an HIV vaccine to prevent the acquisition of HIV infection. He leads clinical research projects in these areas at the Columbia University Medical Center and has major collaborations with colleagues in New York City and abroad.

Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group: The AACTG offers a range of clinical research studies for individuals with HIV infection including treatment for the underlying infection or its complications.
HIV Vaccine Trials Network: The HVTN offers a range of HIV preventative vaccine research studies for uninfected volunteers who wish to assist in the global effort to find an effective vaccine to prevent HIV infection.

Select Global Activities

International AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, South Africa: The Division of Infectious Diseases is collaborating with Professor Umesh Lalloo at the University of Kwazulu-Natal in the establishment of an International AIDS Clinical Trials Unit. This is part of an NIH effort to perform relevant clinical research in HIV/AIDS in the developing world.
Training in Clinical Research, Dominican Republic: The Division of Infectious Diseases is collaborating with colleagues at Profamilia and the Instituto Dermatologico to develop training programs in clinical AIDS research under the auspices of the Fogarty International Center.
