Master of Public Health Cohorts

While enrolled in the MPH Core Curriculum, students are assigned to one of four cohorts, made up of individuals from different departments with varied academic and professional backgrounds.  Cohorts are a balanced and diverse group of peers designed to be a support group for students time on campus. Cohorts are consistently ranked as one of the most treasured and enriching parts of the MPH program. Students can expect to spend the majority of their weekdays on campus with their assigned cohort. While not in class together, curricular activities like group projects, seminars, and other programming will supplement the academic experience. Class times will vary slightly by cohort, with some cohorts starting classes earlier in the morning and finishing earlier in the afternoon, and other cohorts starting in the afternoon and finishing in the early evening.

Cohort Assignment

Incoming students are assigned to a cohort prior to the start of their first semester. Cohort assignments are fixed and cannot be altered.

The Office of Educational Programs (OEP) will send a short survey, typically at the end of July,  to gather information to identify any pressing constraints students may have that are relevant to their cohort assignment. These needs are generally characterized by significant and unchangeable life commitments or responsibilities, such as a medical condition or childcare/eldercare, which would make it very difficult to attend class during a certain time of day. While preferences identified in this survey are taken into consideration, placement in any student’s preferred cohort is not guaranteed. OEP will assign students to their cohort after assessing the preference results of all students who submit the survey on time.
