Kelli Stidham Hall Named Emerging Leader in Health & Medicine

Kelli Stidham Hall, associate professor of population and family health at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, was named an Emerging Leader in Health & Medicine by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). At Columbia Mailman School, her focus is on evaluating the effects of policies and other macrosocial factors on family planning service delivery, access to care and outcomes.

Early and mid-career leaders selected by NAM’s leadership engage in a variety of activities throughout the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (National Academies) over a three-year term, including participation in standing committees, forums and report review panels. With over 15 years of clinical experience as a primary care advanced practice nurse, a significant theme of Dr. Hall’s previous research was on understanding and addressing interrelationships between reproductive, mental and behavioral health and social wellbeing during adolescence and young adulthood. In 2014, Dr. Hall was awarded the APHA Outstanding Young Professional in Population, Sexual and Reproductive Health (PSRH), and in the same year, the Society of Adolescent Health Medicine’s Robert DuRant Statistical Rigor and Scientific Innovation in Adolescent Health Research Award.

Dr. Hall is also an adjunct associate professor with tenure at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, and the founding director and principal investigator of the Center for Reproductive Health Research in the SouthEast (RISE), a collaborative center within Emory that utilizes biosocial and multi-level frameworks and interdisciplinary methods to study the social determinants of reproductive health and health disparities in the U.S. and Africa. Previously, Dr. Hall was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) “BIRCWH” K-12 Scholar and research faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.

Currently, Dr. Hall serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Family Planning; Editorial Board of Contraception journal; and the Executive Committee of the National Medical Committee of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Previously, she was the Section Counselor for APHA’s PSRH Section. Dr. Hall has a PhD in maternal child health and epidemiology from Columbia University, as well as an MS and BS in family and community health from the University of Kentucky. She also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in social epidemiology, demography and reproductive health at Princeton University with the NIH Office of Population Research.
