Mikal Finkelstein

Biography:

By training, Mikal is a board-certified pediatrician and began her professional life as a private practitioner in NYC. In 2010, She traveled to Haiti in response to the earthquake and embarked on a career in global health and humanitarian work. She received her MPH from NYU in Global Health in 2016 and has worked with UNICEF and multiple NGOs in Haiti and Africa. In addition to her international work, she has also worked in school-based health in the South Bronx, NY, where she has provided clinical care, supervision, and training of practitioners. Her experience includes healthcare program development. program delivery, and evaluation. She is interested in advancing maternal and child health, health systems strengthening, sexual and reproductive health, and the decolonization of the development and humanitarian sectors. Since beginning the DrPH program, she has been working on research related to the Global Gag Rule and the impact of the pandemic on decolonization and localization in the humanitarian sector. She lives in Greenwich Village with her husband and Schnoodle, Bandit (who often appears in zoom meetings), and occasionally her son and daughter, both college students.
