How to Apply

The application process for Columbia University’s Executive Healthcare Management Program is designed to identify experienced professionals who are committed to advancing their leadership in the healthcare field. Admissions are selective and holistic, evaluating each candidate for their ability to contribute meaningfully to the classroom experience and the broader healthcare landscape.

Admission Criteria 

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree and have a minimum of five years of professional experience. Students come from a variety of backgrounds—including healthcare services leadership, clinical care, pharmaceutical and biotech industries, public health, management consulting, and finance—bringing a wide range of insights to the learning environment. This diversity enriches classroom dialogue and fosters a collaborative, interdisciplinary culture. 

Ideal candidates demonstrate strong leadership potential, critical thinking abilities, and a clear commitment to improving healthcare systems. The admissions team looks for individuals with a record of professional and academic excellence and integrity. A deep sense of purpose and compassion for advancing healthcare also distinguishes successful applicants. 

Standardized tests are not required for this program, though applicants may choose to submit scores as an optional component of their application. 

Application Components  

Candidates are asked to submit the following materials as part of the application process:

Applicants selected to advance in the admissions process will be invited to participate in a virtual interview via Zoom. 

Application Timeline 

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of June 1, 2025. Prospective students are encouraged to begin preparing their materials well in advance, as select applications components such as transcripts, recommendation letters, and crafting a thoughtful personal statement can take several months.

Applicants have two options to apply: 

Executive students in class
  1. Apply directly to Columbia Mailman at no cost via the school’s internal application system. 
  2. Apply through SOPHAS, the centralized application service for public health programs, where the program is listed as “Exec MPH” for both the MHA and MPH degree tracks. 
 

Program Costs 

A detailed breakdown of tuition and program fees is available on Mailman's Financial Aid Office.  

Partial scholarships are available for qualified executive students. U.S. applicants seeking need-based aid should complete a FAFSA. Please enter Mailman School's code is 002707 when completing. 

In addition, departmental scholarships are available and require the completion of the Executive Funding Form These awards are considered once all components of the application have been submitted.
