Increasing net annual temperature-related mortality in a warming climate
Although heat health warning systems are an important city-level adaptation measure, assessing and improving their effectiveness is difficult due the ambiguity associated with attributing heat-related deaths, the lack of clearly outlined structure, information flow, decision making processes, and interactions among the various stakeholders and communities before and during heat wave events.
Several heat-related projects are underway:
-
Analyze historic heat-related mortality in New York City since the beginning of the 20thcentury
-
Provide an assessment of historical and future heat- related mortality in New York City compared to Boston and Philadelphia.
-
Develop and test a heat-wave vulnerability index for NYC
