Environmental Health Directory
Columbia University’s Center for Environmental Health in Northern Manhattan’s Community Engagement Core (CEC) helps maintain a publicly available, searchable directory of Environmental Health projects serving Northern Manhattan. Parameters can be narrowed using the features below. To be added to the directory, click on the survey button below and complete our intake form.
This directory serves as a bridge between community-based organizations and researchers working toward shared goals to address environmental health concerns. Its purpose is to foster equitable partnerships grounded in trust, mutual learning, and a shared commitment to community well-being. As you begin connecting through this directory, please keep the following in mind:
- Take time to understand each other’s goals and needs. Researchers may be pursuing grant-funded projects and publications, while community organizations may be seeking timely, practical solutions to local challenges.
- Use this directory as a starting point for dialogue. Strong partnerships develop over time through consistent, open, and respectful communication.
- Communicate ideas clearly and check for mutual understanding. Do not assume that all partners share the same language, cultural context, or interpretations of key concepts.
- Think beyond recruitment or outreach. Sustainable collaborations extend well past a single project or study.
- Build from community priorities. The most impactful projects emerge when ideas are shaped by community-identified needs, with researchers offering expertise while remaining open to learning from community perspectives.
Whether you are a researcher seeking to co-develop a project or a community group sharing ideas and priorities, this directory is intended to help cultivate thoughtful, community-informed collaborations.
