APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Please note that the CSRI Boot Camp program and the Certification of Professional Achievement in Clinical and Translational Research (CPA/CTR) program have the same application requirements and use the same application forms. CSRI alums interested the CPA/CTR should contact csri@columbia.edu.

Two ways to apply
WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM YOUR DEPARTMENT OR DIVISION
Applicants whose tuition and fees will be paid by their department or division must submit the standard application, consisting of:
- The Mailman School of Public Health CSRI Application*†;
- The CSRI 2026 Application Supplement through which candidates are asked to provide a few additional pieces of information and upload the supporting materials listed below:
- Curriculum vitae;
- A personal statement of no more than 500 words, describing research interests, career goals, and reasons for applying to the program;
- A description of the research project that the candidate intends to pursue during CSRI. The description, in a maximum of 500 words, should include the project's broad objectives and specific aims, research design and methods, and public health significance. Accepted students may update or change projects at the start of CSRI.
- The two CSRI 2026 Recommendation Forms listed below.
- CSRI 2026 Sponsor Recommendation Form - this form must be completed by the candidate's department chair or division chief. The letter of reference must indicate that the department/division will assume financial costs for the candidate's participation in the program. Assurance that the candidate will be given time off (no clinical or work duties) for the duration of the program must also be included.
- CSRI 2026 Recommendation Form - this form should be completed by a different individual who can comment knowledgeably on the candidate's research potential.
SELF-SUPPORTED
Applicants who assume responsibility for their own tuition and fees must submit a standard application, consisting of:
- The Mailman School of Public Health CSRI Application†;
- Transcripts from all previous undergraduate and graduate training programs;
- The CSRI 2026 Application Supplement through which candidates are asked to provide a few additional pieces of information and upload the supporting materials listed below:
- Curriculum vitae;
- A personal statement of no more than 500 words, describing research interests, career goals, and reasons for applying to the program;
- A description of the research project that the candidate intends to pursue during CSRI. The description, in a maximum of 500 words, should include the project's broad objectives and specific aims, research design and methods, and public health significance. Accepted students may update or change projects at the start of CSRI.
- Two separate references who must each complete the CSRI 2026 Recommendation Form and upload a letter of reference. References must be individuals who can comment knowledgeably on the candidate's research potential.
- The first reference must come from the candidate's department chair or division chief and must indicate that the candidate will be given time off (no clinical or work duties) for the duration of the program.
Scholarships
We are pleased to offer scholarship awards for the CSRI 2026 program.* Awards are made on the basis of merit. Awards cover $3,000 to $10,000 of the cost of tuition for CSRI.
Eligibility
We invite applications from early-career investigators: post-doctoral fellows/researchers and junior faculty. Candidates from any institution are welcome to apply.
Applying for a Scholarship
In addition to completing all required components of the standard application to CSRI 2026, applicants who would like to be considered for a scholarship must complete the CSRI 2026 Scholarship Application form which includes questions on:
- Demographics;
- Other support;
- Merit as defined by the applicant's greatest strengths and/or achievements.
Candidates who have already submitted their application to CSRI 2026 must also submit the CSRI 2026 Scholarship Application form to be considered for an award. The deadline to apply to the CSRI 2026 program and the scholarship is April 15.
