Catalyze Evidence and ActionS for Equitable (CEASE) Cancer Control
We strive to advance population health through equitable cancer control.
Cancer remains a leading cause of premature death in the U.S. and around the world. In the U.S., the incidence rates of multiple cancers are rising, particularly among young adults and women. Despite continued progress in cancer prevention, screening and treatment, the benefits of these advancements have not been equitably distributed, leaving marginalized, underserved and resource-limited population groups with a disproportionate cancer burden.
We are committed to reducing the significant and unequal burden of cancer. We believe that the entrenched nature of cancer health inequities demands focused attention on structural and social determinants of health to achieve long-term and enduring impact, alongside efforts that intervene on the health consequences of inequities to make urgently needed progress towards reducing health disparities.
Directed by Dr. Parisa Tehranifar, the CEASE Cancer Lab focuses on the following areas:
- Understanding and addressing social determinants and mechanisms of chronic disease risk with a focus on cancer
- Monitoring social disparities in cancer incidence, screening and outcomes
- Optimizing breast cancer screening and early detection
- Promoting implementation of evidence-based interventions into public health and healthcare practice
- Engaging and collaborating with diverse communities in the research process to enhance the quality and impact of the research and promote health equity.
