Overview
Michael Korvink, DrPH, PStat®, is a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and serves full-time as Principal, Research and Innovation at Premier, Inc. Dr. Korvink has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and pharmaceutical research, developing and applying quantitative methods to problems in healthcare delivery, population health, and health equity.
His research interests include health outcomes and risk adjustment, healthcare quality measurement, causal and systems-oriented approaches to healthcare research, and methods for analyzing large-scale administrative and observational healthcare data. He particularly enjoys collaborative, interdisciplinary research addressing healthcare quality and patient safety, maternal and perinatal health, healthcare utilization, clinical outcomes, and disparities in care.
Dr. Korvink received his Doctor of Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Institute for Health and Humanity in 2026. His doctoral research used a systems-based, mixed-methods approach to examine social determinants of health in Western North Carolina. His community-engaged research includes collaborations with organizations serving underserved populations, with an emphasis on social determinants of health and whole-person care. He also contributes his expertise to national advisory panels focused on healthcare quality and patient safety.
An Accredited Professional Statistician (PStat®) through the American Statistical Association, Dr. Korvink brings an applied data science perspective to both his research and teaching. At Columbia, he teaches Relational Databases and SQL Programming for Research and Data Science (P8180), emphasizing practical skills that support reproducible research and modern biostatistical practice.Academic Appointments
