Churl-Su Kwon, MD, MPH
- Assistant Professor of Neurological Sciences (in Neurology, in Epidemiology, in the Neurological Surgery, and in the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center)
Overview
Dr. Kwon obtained his MD from University College London and MPH from Harvard. He completed neurosurgery residency in the UK, followed by postdoctoral fellowships in epilepsy clinical research at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, neurosurgery/neurophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and health services research at Mount Sinai. Dr. Kwon specializes in epilepsy and functional neurosurgery. He has a wide variety of academic and research interests, which include: outcomes research in clinical neurosciences, epidemiological and health services research, clinical informatics, randomized neurosurgical trials, and neurophysiology. Dr. Kwon also studies abnormal brain function in patients with epilepsy and psychiatric comorbidities using intra-operative recordings, big data, and reversible treatment methods of neuromodulation with deep brain stimulation and responsive neurostimulation.

Research
Dr. Kwon specializes in epilepsy and functional neurosurgery. He has a wide variety of academic and research interests which include: outcomes research in clinical neurosciences, epidemiological and health services research, clinical informatics, randomized neurosurgical trials and neurophysiology.
Dr. Kwon uses large, linked electronic health records, big data, and prospective cohort studies to conduct epidemiological and outcomes-based research in epilepsy. He looks at appropriateness of epilepsy neurosurgical care, health resource use and access to care, multi-morbidities (e.g., psychiatric comorbidities, intellectual disabilities) and their associated outcomes in people with epilepsy.
Dr. Kwon also studies abnormal brain function in patients with epilepsy and psychiatric comorbidities using intra-operative recordings, big data and reversible treatment methods of neuromodulation with deep brain stimulation and responsive neurostimulation.
