Kent McKinney, MPH

Kent McKinney, MPH, MBA, is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Wellguidant Advisors, LLC, a health policy and reimbursement consulting firm that advises life sciences companies on drug and medical device commercialization, as well as clinical, regulatory, and market access strategy. With more than 30 years of senior executive experience in the life sciences sector, Professor McKinney brings a practical, real-world perspective to his teaching, with a particular focus on the intersection of patient access, affordability, and health insurance market dynamics.

Prior to his current role, Professor McKinney served as Executive Director of the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, a state-administered program providing coverage to uninsurable residents. During his tenure, he implemented value-based insurance design initiatives that improved care coordination for chronically ill populations while reducing overall program costs.

Professor McKinney has deep expertise in federal and state healthcare policy, reimbursement systems, and health plan operations and financing. He began his career as a commissioned officer in the United States Army.
