Profile Headshot

Overview

Dr. Adina Zeki Al Hazzouri is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. The overarching goal of her research program is to improve the understanding of how social and cardiovascular exposures from across the lifecourse influence cognitive aging, Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), and other related health outcomes in older age. An important theme of her work focuses on social determinants of health, poverty, and financial well-being, as well as minority health and health disparities. Another theme of her work focuses on causal inference methodologies that address challenges in ADRD research including inverse probability weighting and trial emulation. Her work leverages methods such as pooling and harmonization of existing epidemiological cohorts to address lifecourse ADRD research questions. Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri’s work also aims to strengthen research capacity building in Lebanon and the region—bolstering outreach in current collaborative networks and increasing training and opportunities for the next cohort of health researchers to address pressing ADRD questions and conduct successful ADRD research in low-resourced settings. She has established one of the first longitudinal cohorts of middle- to older-aged adults in Lebanon to investigate lifecourse determinants of ADRD. Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri has a successful track record of funding and is the 2026 recipient of the Carol J. Rowland Hogue Award for Outstanding Mid-Career Achievement.
