Students Propose Solutions for Rural Healthcare at Policy Case Competition
Sponsored by the Center for Public Health Systems
Last week, the Center for Public Health Systems and Voices for Public Health Systems hosted our first-ever health policy case competition!
Teams developed proposals for how New York State could use Rural Health Transformation Program funding, part of H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, to support rural communities and strengthen local health systems.
Students from across Mailman departments came together to pitch thoughtful, creative solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing rural health care and public health. Across the presentations, we saw ideas that reflected many strategies gaining momentum across the field, including community health worker models, integrated care networks, workforce pipeline development, community engagement, and stronger infrastructure for care coordination.
It was exciting to see students engage with a timely public health issue and apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-world health system challenges. Congratulations to our top 3 teams!
