New Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations Announced
The next Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations at Columbia Mailman School will be Barbara Howland Verrier, a seasoned public health fundraising professional who currently serves as director of principal gifts at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She will start her new role on September 1.
Verrier is a senior member of The Bloomberg School’s development, alumni relations, volunteer engagement, and stewardship team, and has a strong track record of successful fundraising. She was active in the planning and execution of the 2016 Bloomberg School 100th anniversary campaign. She also brings experience in local community engagement, having served as director of the Ware Center for Civic Engagement at Franklin & Marshall College, where she provided leadership in engaging students to address community needs through volunteerism, service learning, and sustained civic engagement.
“These experiences in relationship-building across various constituencies—local community, faculty, advisory boards, alumni, and donors—will be a great asset [to our School],” wrote Dean Linda P. Fried in a schoolwide email. “Barbara joins Columbia Mailman at a time of great opportunity for public health fundraising generally and for Columbia Mailman specifically, given society’s increased appreciation of the importance of public health and our School’s upcoming centennial.”
