Biomarker Shared Resource

The Biomarker Shared Resource (Biomarker SR) is a joint resource of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center and Columbia’s NIEHS Center for Environmental Health and Justice in Northern Manhattan. It provides a centralized, efficient, and cost-effective resource for receiving, handling, and storing human samples that are collected as part of research studies in molecular epidemiology and other types of cancer-related research. The Core also provides a large variety of research design, consulting, and technical services including processing and analysis of samples for molecular, epigenetics, and inflammatory biomarkers. The Core also specializes in extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization (nanotracking analysis, ELISA, nucleic acid extraction) and in human cells and in vitro models from various tissues and organs.

The Biomarker SR’s goals are:

  • To provide training and consultation for researchers on services available in the Biomarker SR.
  • To provide facilities and training for biospecimen processing.
  • To expand research tools, standardize key methodologies, and introduce the newest techniques available to investigators.
