Health System Simulation
As the pace of change in healthcare continues to accelerate, executives must be leaders, adept at navigating these changes and responding to crises. The Mailman School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management’s Thomas P. Ference Health System Simulation provides an opportunity to experience the challenges of executive leadership and strategic decision-making in a competitive, multi-hospital marketplace. This realistic exercise effectively simulates the complexity and intensity of the evolving healthcare environment. Participants include all Columbia Mailman HPM graduate students as well as healthcare leaders from 46 states, 4 military bases, and 21 countries. Other partners include Bocconi University (Milan), NYC H+H, and NYP Lead Academy.

June 2026
42 healthcare executives traveled to our campus from North Dakota, California, South Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Florida, New York, Ontario, etc, to participate in our unique HPM Simulation from June 8-10th. This sold-out event was the first in-person simulation on our campus for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Past programming offered to ACHE was exclusively held online. The October session is already filling up.
We were honored and delighted to have 42 healthcare executives (including hospital CEOs, COOs, CFOs, MDs/RNs, and Consultants) from across the USA and Canada participate in the HPM Healthcare System Simulation on our NYC campus.

We thank our great colleagues at ACHE and Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health!
We are eagerly looking forward to October and the next simulation session - and, again, kudos to these 42 folks! This August, we will have our 13th class from NYC H+H, and in December, our 5th simulation with Bocconi University (in Milan).
