About Us
A program of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Department of Sociomedical Sciences, the CDC-funded New York City STI Prevention Training Center (NYC PTC) is dedicated to increasing the sexual health knowledge and skills of clinical health professionals in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We work with clinical providers such as physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners.
The PTC offers:
- Classroom and web-based courses
- Clinical consultation services
- Technical assistance and quality improvement consultation
- Clinical resource tools
Trainings are intended for healthcare providers who are involved with clinical decision-making (identification of appropriate screening, management and treatment). Training content includes topics such as challenging STI cases, STI and PrEP clinical decision-making, diagnostic considerations and algorithms for the diagnosis and management of STIs, and a review of the CDC guidelines and sexual history taking. Core training on STIs is provided through the National STD Curriculum Center, and clinical consultation is provided through the STD Clinical Consultation Network.
The PTC is part of the National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC) and is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
