Collaborations

Focusing on medical and public health,  Biostatistics faculty members collaborate with colleagues across the University in a wide range of disciplines. Our collaborators include local, national, and international colleagues and projects urban, rural, and global. In the meantime, we provide consultations on study design and analysis, explore new methods, and develop statistical models to address public health questions.

The following lists highlighted collaborative research efforts with major research institutions across the Columbia campus.

Genomics at Columbia

Organized and lead by Iuliana Ionita-Laza, Genomics@Columbia brings together an interdisciplinary group of people from multiple departments across Columbia University with diverse research expertise in statistical/computational genomics and other omics, computational biology, biomedical informatics, and interested in understanding biology and human health. Through various activities including regular seminars and journal clubs we aim to increase research and learning opportunities, and benefit students and postdocs through interdisciplinary training in quantitative genomics.

Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD)  for the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research

Lead by Dr. Shing Lee, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) is a vital resource of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research in collaboration with the Departments of Biostatistics and Epidemiology.  BERD provides a wide range of study and clinical trial design, statistical, analytical, and database management consulting to assist Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) faculty members in innovating their translational research, garnering grant support, and publishing study results.  BERD also offers a range of educational activities including seminars, workshops, and mini-courses. Through these activities, BERD seeks to train and foster interdisciplinary collaborations between the Department of Biostatistics and researchers across CUIMC, and to improve research using a team science approach. BERD also supports the dissemination of educational materials and statistical tools related to translational biostatistics and epidemiology to help the understanding and implementation of study design, innovative clinical trials, and quantitative methods.

Cancer Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) for Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) at Columbia University

Lead by Dr. Jianhua Hu, the Cancer Biostatistics Shared Resource is to provide statistical support to HICCC investigators from the study design stage of a project through to its execution, analysis, and interpretation, and finally, to the dissemination of the work.

Mental Health Data Science at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI)

Lead by Dr. Melanie Wall, Mental Health Data Science provides statistical collaboration, data analytic methodological development, and data management for psychiatric and mental health research conducted within the Department of Psychiatry, Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene (RFMH), and the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI).
