The New York Times: America is Growing Old. We Look Into Its Future

Age Boom Academy inspires NYT coverage

September 6, 2023

Age Boom Academy moderator and editorial board member of The New York Times Michelle Cottle delved deeply into America's readiness for the future of our aging population and the preparations we need to invest in as a society. This coverage is in part inspired by our 2022 Robert N. Butler-Jack Rosenthal Age Boom Academy "Caregiving and Our Longer Lives: The $500 Billion Question" -- an annual training for members of the media produced by the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center (CAC).  A joint initiative of the CAC, the Mailman School of Public Health, and the Columbia Journalism School, Age Boom Academy is led by Linda Fried, MD, MPH, Caitlin Hawke, and Bruce Shapiro.

The 2023 Age Boom Academy will take place over the course of October and will focus on "America's Housing Crisis and Longer Lives" -- an exploration of the intersection that housing has with health and access to healthy longevity.

We are grateful to the RRF Foundation for Aging for its generous support. And we congratulate our 2023 Age Boom Fellows listed below.
