The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) was launched in July 2017, as a partnership between NYP, Columbia's Business School and the Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM). LEAD delivers strategic management and health policy training to rising-star physicians in the NYP health system. Phyicians apply to be accepted to this 18-month program which takes them out of the clinical enviornment and puts them back the classroom. LEAD participants take HPM coursework in following topics: Health Policy, Health Economics, Social & Behavioral Science/Population Health, Healthcare Marketing, Healthcare Payment Systems, Analytics & Managerial Decision-Making, the Health System Simulation.

In addition to this coursework, participants also complete an application project relevant to their current department and work as a clinicians. Physicians who complete the program are prepared to take on leadership positions within the NYP health system.
