NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Leadership Education and Development for Physicians

HPM faculty expertly navigate the intersection between healthcare delivery, management and policy in the NYP LEAD curriculum. The program provides our physician leaders with the skills they need as they move from clinical practice to executive leadership roles.

The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) was launched in July 2017, as a partnership between NYP, Columbia's Business School and the Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM). LEAD delivers strategic management and health policy training to rising-star physicians in the NYP health system. Phyicians apply to be accepted to this 18-month program which takes them out of the clinical enviornment and puts them back the classroom. LEAD participants take HPM coursework in following topics: Health Policy, Health Economics, Social & Behavioral Science/Population Health, Healthcare Marketing, Healthcare Payment Systems, Analytics & Managerial Decision-Making, the Health System Simulation.

In addition to this coursework, participants also complete an application project relevant to their current department and work as a clinicians. Physicians who complete the program are prepared to take on leadership positions within the NYP health system.
