Staff Learning Opportunities

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has a number of offerings for faculty including an ongoing reading group on Anti-Racist Pedagogy Theory and Practice, online open MOOCs for inclusive practices, and other resources for inclusive teaching.

Cook Ross provides training on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Accessibility for organizations. This course contains two of their eLearning videos:

Invisible Influencers - an introduction to uncovering and mitigating unconscious bias.

The PAUSE Model™ - Cook Ross’ five step process that provides users with the tools to disrupt bias. Anchored in engaging stories, the Press PAUSE video series contextualizes how bias can affect your day-to-day interactions, behaviors, and decisions.

This resource was developed for the Department of Population & Family Health to center inclusive practices and language when discussing transgender people in parental health.

Columbia University is an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD). The NCFDD is a nationally-recognized independent organization dedicated to supporting faculty, particularly under-represented faculty, post-docs, and graduate students in making successful transitions throughout their careers. NCFDD provides online career development, training, and mentoring resources.

The NCFDD offers workshops for leadership, pre-tenure faculty, newly tenured faculty and tenured faculty. They also have webinars and multiweek courses on topics such as: creating anti-oppressive communities for Black students and mentees, the unique experiences of Black academics, imposter syndrome, and creating a publishing agenda. Members also have access to a number of other resources. 

This webinar, a part of APHA's Advancing Racial Equity series, examined racism and its historic and present-day impact on health and well-being. Presenters:

identified the multiple levels on which racism operates;

described the physiological impacts of racism and discrimination on health; and

explored the principles for and barries to achieving health equity

The deans of the four Columbia University Irving Medical Center schools appointed a task force in July 2020 to review ways to reduce the impact of racism in health care and the health sciences.

The task force of more than 100 individuals was led by co-chairs Drs. Rafael A. Lantigua, Anne L. Taylor, and Olajide A. Williams. CUIMC leadership will announce measures to implement the action items that are outlined in the report. Read the report here.

This four-part webinar series provides a foundation on racism as a public health issue. Stigma, inequalities and civil rights injustices remain in our society today. Unfortunately, skin color plays a large part in how people are viewed, valued and treated. We know that racism, both intentional and unintentional, affects the health and well-being of individuals and communities and stifles the opportunity of many to contribute fully to the future and growth of this nation.
