Emmy-Award winner Randy Cohen returns to Columbia University’s Mailman School for a live taping of WAMC Public Radio’s “Person Place Thing,” featuring Jonathan F.P. Rose, an urban renewal pioneer and developer. Rose’s new book, The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations, and Human Nature Teach Us About the Future of Urban Life, is being compared to Jane Jacobs’ Death and Life of Great American Cities for its sophisticated understanding of the contemporary urban landscape. Join the studio audience as Rose shares ideas about sustainable urban development in Cohen’s compelling “Person Place Thing” style. Following the live taping, Rose will sign copies of The Well-Tempered City, which will be available for purchase. For this episode, Cohen will be joined by classical guitarist Joao Kouyoumdjian, playing the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Journalist Randy Cohen spent 12 years writing “The Ethicist” at the New York Times. He created “Person Place Thing” based on the winning idea that people are particularly engaging when speaking about one person, one place, and one thing that are important to them.
