Parkinson's Disease Biomarker Project (PDBP)
The goal of the PDBP is to identify Parkinson's biomarkers using imaging, genomic, and other biological data. The GPU/cuda processing on the cluster has sped things up enormously: one particular task usually takes a day or more to process on a regular CPU completes in less than an hour in the cuda queues.

Retirement Timing and Health
This project will explore the effects of retirement timing on health. Using panel data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and the Chilean Social Protection Survey (CSPS), we will test four theory-based hypotheses about these effects-that retirements maximize health when they happen earlier, later, anytime, or on time.

A microbiome study project that uses high throughput sequencing of amplicons to determine the prevalence of bacterial species within individuals. Flowgram clustering is a state of the art technique for clustering 454 sequences, which uses raw flowgram (light intensities) data instead of the extracted sequence.

Cord Blood 450K
The goal of the project is to examine the impact of prenatal environmental exposures on DNA methylation in cord blood using the Infinium 450K array in association with the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health. There are many ancillary questions also being examined using these data (e.g., understanding the relationship between DNA methylation in the cord blood of sibling pairs to better isolate the impact of environmental exposures; predicting the distribution of cord blood leukocytes using DNA methylation, etc).
