MS & Doctoral Costs

The total cost of attendance includes a combination of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and personal expenses for the 2020-2021 academic year.  MS and Doctoral tuition is charged on a per credit basis. Click here for 2020-2021 tuition costs. (See also MPH/MHA tuition and fees cost.)

(Note to PhD Applicants: PhD applicants must apply for financial aid through the School of Public Health but should review Graduate School of Arts & Sciences for information on tuition and fees.)

Executive MS Program Fee
(Note: Exec MS students also pay a $1,000 fee for their summer semester.)



Student Activity Fee 
All students are charged an activity fee to help cover the costs of student events and activities, and to help student organizations.



Health Service Fee
Charged to all full-time students, this fee covers use of the campus health service clinic.

The Aetna insurance and SHS contract are for the entire contract policy (12 month) year: August 17 to August 16, although charges are applied per semester to match financial aid awards. Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health now offers a gold plan and a platinum plan. A change in status such as (but not limited to) full time to part/half time or a leave will not release students from spring charges. Students covered by comparable medical insurance of their own may elect to waive this fee. Waiver forms can be found on the Student Health Services site.
