The Tumor Microenvironment and Lymphatic Remodeling in Postpartum Breast Cancer

Postpartum breast cancer—diagnosed within 10 years of childbirth—is more likely to be aggressive, yet its biology remains poorly understood. We’re studying how the breast tumor microenvironment changes after pregnancy, with a focus on lymphatic remodeling and immune suppression.

Our goal is to uncover biological markers that can better predict outcomes and guide treatment for young women. This is one of the first studies to look at breast cancer biology specifically during the postpartum window, using advanced spatial and molecular techniques.

Center for SOcial CApital (SOCA): Promoting Multigenerational Health

The SOCA Center is a persistent poverty initiative where the Investigator Development Core supports cancer research careers for scientists committed to populations experiencing persistent poverty. We support cancer research entry, retention, and progression through mentorship, career development, and institutional support. We aim to change the structure of opportunity in cancer research and training.

YES in THE HEIGHTS

YES in THE HEIGHTS provides immersive cancer research experiences and environmental exposure education to high school and college students from Columbia’s Cancer Center catchment area. The program promotes not only research skills but also a sense of belonging in science.

The COMMUNITY Center

The COMMUNITY Center provides a multilevel, multigenerational approach to chronic disease prevention, working in partnership with New York City communities. Through the Investigator Development Core, we award pilot projects focused on implementation science and community-based research and provide tailored mentorship and professional development.
